As a player, Krüger represented Bayern Munich from 2003 to 2009, and after her playing career ended, she stayed with the Munich club as a coach. She later served as an assistant on Bayern’s board of directors and most recently held the position of lead expert in sports strategy and development.
“Over 17 years, she has gained experience at a top club, helped shape processes, and demonstrated exceptional organizational and leadership qualities. She combines sports expertise, strategic thinking, and strong communication skills, and will take overall responsibility for Hamburg’s sporting activities,” said club supervisory board chairman Michael Papenfuß.
Krüger becomes the first woman to hold the position of sporting director in the Bundesliga.
Earlier in April, Marie-Louise Eta took charge of Union Berlin, becoming the first female head coach in Bundesliga history.
