A prominent figure even during his playing days, the future manager represented Moscow clubs Spartak, Dinamo, and Lokomotiv, as well as Kairat and Kuban, and won the USSR Cup in 1970.
However, the defining chapter of Semin’s biography is his coaching work. In the early 1980s, he quickly transitioned into management, forever linking his name with Moscow’s Lokomotiv, which he led in various periods over many years. Under his guidance, the railwaymen evolved from a solid team into one of the leaders of Russian football, regularly competing for trophies.
With Lokomotiv, Semin won three Russian Premier League titles—in 2002, 2004, and 2018—along with six Russian Cups. This period marked a time of great success for the club, and for the coach himself, it was when his style, demanding nature, and ability to build a team made him one of the country’s top specialists. Semin is known as a manager who can unite a squad and achieve results even under difficult circumstances.
Beyond his achievements with Lokomotiv, Semin also worked with the Russian national team, Dynamo Kyiv, Krasnodar’s Kuban, and other clubs. His career has spanned decades, and his reputation as a coach who remains true to football and his own methods has long become part of Russian sports history.
