Somerset has secured the services of South African batter Jordan Hermann for their next three County Championship fixtures.

The 24-year-old joins the squad after Tom Kohler-Cadmore suffered a fractured thumb, Lewis Goldworthy sustained a hamstring injury, and Tom Banton remains unavailable this season due to a finger issue.

Hermann will be eligible for the upcoming match against Sussex, as well as the games against Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire in mid-June.

“We’ve had several key batters sidelined with injuries over the past month, so this was an ideal chance to reinforce our batting lineup. Jordan will certainly add depth to our options,” said director of cricket Andy Hurry.

Hermann has amassed over 3,000 runs in 40 first-class matches at an average of 45.22. He made his international debut in March during a T20 victory against New Zealand.

Playing alongside his older brother Ruben, Hermann was not required to bat in the tour opener at Mount Maunganui and was later ruled out of the remainder of the series due to injury.

Last week, Hermann was also named in a South Africa A squad that will face the England Lions in two four-day matches at Arundel and Beckenham, starting 22 and 29 May. However, he is not included in the lineup for the following three one-day fixtures.

Somerset currently faces Glamorgan as they aim for their third County Championship win in four matches.
