A senior official of China’s General Administration of Sport recently stated that the administration has observed nationwide activities involving large-screen photo displays in shopping malls and offline fan gatherings to celebrate the birthdays of national team athletes. These activities not only consume substantial public resources but also risk disrupting athletes’ preparation and competition. Moreover, unauthorized use of athletes’ likenesses by event organizers and shopping malls may infringe on athletes’ legal rights. The official urged the public to focus on athletes’ on-field performances and offer encouragement, while maintaining rationality, abiding by relevant laws and regulations, and refraining from organizing or participating in birthday celebrations or similar activities for athletes.
