
Philadelphia Flyers forward Owen Tippett was sidelined for the team’s Eastern Conference second-round series against the Carolina Hurricanes because of internal bleeding. The injury occurred during the Flyers’ first-round victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins, which ended in six games. Without Tippett, Philadelphia was swept in four straight contests by Carolina.

Tippett, who led the Flyers with 28 goals in the regular season, issued a statement Tuesday through the team. “Following a series of medical evaluations, treatments, and rehabilitation under the care of Flyers medical team, I am making progress and feeling better each day,” he said. “Despite being cleared to travel and skate with the team at certain practices, things did not progress at a pace that I hoped for or would allow me to safely continue playing.”
