Atlético Madrid midfielder Johnny Cardozo is expected to be sidelined for approximately two months due to a severe right ankle sprain, according to Spanish journalist Nacho Donado.
The club confirmed on Tuesday that Cardozo sustained the injury during training and has since undergone surgery. Donado reports that the 23-year-old will miss this summer’s World Cup, dashing his hopes of representing the United States national team. His recovery target is now set for the start of Atlético’s preseason training next season.
